Stade Rennais made short work of AJ Auxerre (5-0) on Sunday afternoon, during the 7th day of Ligue 1. A meeting marked by the injury of Baptiste Santamaria.
After a disappointing draw at Troyes, Stade Rennais bounced back this Sunday with a clear victory against AJ Auxerre (4-0), at Roazhon Park, during the 7th day of Ligue 1. A match during which Baptiste Santamaria violently twisted his ankle, left on a stretcher (9th).
The first period quickly took off. With a clear domination in the first quarter of an hour, Stade Rennais opened the scoring quickly thanks to Kamaldeen Sulemana, receiving a deflected ball, which came to conclude with a flat foot against Benoît Costil on the left side from the surface (2nd). After erasing the Auxerre goalkeeper, the young striker almost scored a double on a deep service from Martin Terrier, but his shot was repelled by a miraculous return by tackling Paul Joly (16th). The Bretons nevertheless struggled to be regular in their product content. The always fragile defense cast doubt in the minds of the Rouge et Noir who had to face the little awakening of Auxerre. The Furlan players were able to create some interesting opportunities with Birama Touré (27th), Mathias Autret (31st) or even M’Baye Niang (37th) but they lacked conviction or consistency in the last gesture.
In the second half, Auxerre dominated possession by circulating the ball. Thanks to a cross from Sinayoko, AJA quickly obtained clear opportunities (51st). But on a huge error from Alexandre Coeff, who lost the ball near his surface, Amine Gouiri spun face-to-face to deceive Costil with a flat foot (60th). It is the first goal of the former Lyonnais in the Breton jersey. A few minutes later, Martin Terrier made the break by taking the ball at the far post on a magnificent service from Gouiri which overflowed on the right side (68th). On a very long clearance from Steve Mandanda, Flavien Tait found himself face-to-face. After pushing the ball with his head to erase the Auxerre goalkeeper, he tackled in order to conclude in the back of the net (80th). While the defense had repelled the attempts of Majer then Bourigeaud, Matthis Abline offered his first goal in Ligue 1 well helped by a favorable counter (85th).
In the standings, Stade Rennais is now in 6th position with 11 points, while AJ Auxerre remains 14th with Troyes. Next weekend, the Burgundians will host Lorient at Abbé-Deschamps, Rennes will go to Marseille on Sunday.
