NYCFC One-Way Victory
New York City FC gave defending Major League Soccer (MLS) champions Columbus the 4-1 victory a 4-1 victory on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
Although the Crew dominated in possession (56%), the home side created more offensive opportunities. The NYCFC players hit nine of their 24 strikes and four landed in the back of the net.
Valentin Castellanos and Thiago Andrade scored in the first half and Keaton Parks and Santiago Rodriguez struck after the break.
Columbus avoided the insult of the shutout when Pedro Santos converted his penalty shot in stoppage time in the second period.
In Florida, Orlando City SC won another attacking game, beating Atlanta United FC 3-2.
Josef Martinez scored for the first time since May, putting the visitors ahead in the first minute of play. Marcelino Moreno also found the back of the cage in the 66th to give Atlanta a 2-1 lead.
Orlando, however, showed character. Silvester van der Water tied the game in the 79th minute and moments later captain Nani gave the Lions the win.
Quite a spectacle between Orlando and Atlanta –
