NHL. The Devils topple the Oilers in 7 seconds.

New Jersey picked up a fifth straight NHL win on Thursday. The Devils won 4-3 on the ice in Edmonton, thanks to two goals scored in the space of seven seconds in the 57th minute.

Led 3-1 after two thirds, the Devils equalized at 3-3 with 3’15 » remaining. Seven seconds later, after a commitment won by captain Nico Hischier, the in-form Jesper Bratt took advantage of a laser pass from John Marino to seal the score by signing his 17th point of the season.

The Swedish striker thus alone holds the franchise record with at least one point scored in 11 consecutive matches. Credited with an assist on this goal, Nico Hischier has scored 11 points in 10 games played this season. Solid defensively, Jonas Siegenthaler remained “mute” Thursday.

The victory is the eighth in eleven outings for the Devils, who had lost their first two games. However, they had to deal with the injury of their goalkeeper Mackenzie Blackwood, who gave way to Vitek Vanecek in the 29th minute, a few seconds before the 3-1.

Josi and Meier score

Roman Josi and Timo Meier also both scored on the power play on Thursday. But if the Bernese defender experienced the joys of victory with Nashville (4-1 in Calgary), the Appenzeller striker could not avoid another defeat for the Sharks, who lost 4-3 on penalties against to the Florida Panthers.

Alex Ovechkin also found the fault Thursday, for the 786th time in Washington’s jersey in the regular season. The Russian thus equaled the record for the number of goals scored for the same franchise, held by Gordie Howe. But his success did not prevent the Capitals from losing 3-1 to Pius Suter’s Red Wings.
