The Canadiens and Lightning will return from the holiday break with a very interesting matchup, while in New Jersey, where the Bruins and Devils will meet for the second time this season, the two clubs will look for their past sensations. Both clubs have held the top spot in their respective divisions for 131 days this season (BOS: 82; NJD: 49).
We continue to prepare for the Winter Classic
As preparations continue in Fenway Parkthe Bruins and Penguins will be in action on Wednesday for one of their final two games before meeting outdoors on Jan. 2.
- Boston will enter its outdoor game as the No. 1 ranked team in the NHL, which is a first for a club at the Winter Classic. The only other outdoor game the league’s top team played in was the 2014 Stadium Series at the Dodger Stadium – the Ducks, ranked first, eliminated the Kings (who were ranked ninth).
- The Penguins (19-10-5, 43 points) currently sit ninth in the league standings. The 2023 Winter Classic could be the NHL’s eighth outdoor game – and the second consecutive Winter Classic – to feature two of the NHL’s top ten starting clubs. The last time was on January 1, 2022, when the Blues (8th in the NHL) beat the Wild (10th in the NHL) at the Target Field from Minneapolis.
