NHL Network analyst offers monster trade between Sabers and Devils

At this time of year, some general managers are throwing poles and others are tempted to bite the hook. The trading season is drawing to a close, and big catches are still available.

However, this time around it is different. The salary cap situation and lockdown protocols complicate matters, not to mention that due to the shortened campaign, several teams are still in the race for the playoffs.

I don’t know what hot shots we’re going to get over the next few days, but Brian Lawton has come up with quite one.

An analyst for the NHL Network, the former NHL forward (and brief GM of the Lightning) spoke of a monster trade between the New Jersey Devils and the Buffalo Sabers that would involve four prospects under the age of 25:

Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin against Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes.

Who would come out on top: the Sabers or the Devils?

You don’t often see a deal involving three young top picks (Rasmus Dahlin, Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes) and a second (Jack Eichel).

Despite very good elements in their ranks, the Sabers are languishing at the bottom of the standings. They are even the laughing stock of the League. Drastic changes are needed, no doubt about it. But I don’t think (actually I’m sure) that such an exchange would fix the problem.

The Devils might have more to gain, though that’s debatable. Many question the real worth of Rasmus Dahlin, while others have reservations about the positive influence Jack Eichel can have in a locker room.

In your opinion, if the transaction were to materialize, what training would come out the winner?

The deadline is April 12, 3 p.m. ET.
