New York Devils general manager tom Fitzgerald Jersey has indicated on the NHL website that he will begin negotiations for a contract extension with Timo meier the coming days. Fitzerlard will get in touch with the player’s agent, Claude Lemieux, in the hope of convincing him to get along long term in Newark.

“Nothing would make us happier than putting Timo on a long-term contract. This is our objective, Claude and I will discuss it. I want him to understand what it’s like to be in New Jersey, the organization, the travels, the life, I believe New Jersey is a diamond in the rough and there are so many positives. We want to give him the opportunity to settle down and we hope he wants to stay here. From the start, our goal was for him to come to us without him feeling the pressure of negotiating a contract so that he could fit into the team and feel comfortable,” Fitzgerald said.

Meier was acquired by the Devils in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 26. Last season, he had 52 points in 57 games with San Jose and more than 14 points in 21 games with the Devils.
