After a period of play between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, the National Hockey League decided to postpone the game later in the evening due to problems with the ice.
The match, which started at noon PST, will therefore resume at 9 p.m.
After a period of play, the Avalanche were ahead 1-0 thanks to a goal from Samuel Girard.
The bright sun caused problems for the ice which cracked in several places in the heat, much to the dismay of the players and referees. During intermission, the NHL allowed a longer period to repair the icy surface, but ultimately chose to postpone the game for a few hours.
In light of this experience, the game scheduled for Sunday between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers at Lake Tahoe has been rescheduled for late afternoon, at 4:30 p.m. EST.
The two teams were also unable to train on the outdoor rink on Saturday due to poor ice conditions.
