Having a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become a better bettor with this betting model and our betting tools.

Every day we will look at every game, sports betting odds (via Betway) and every team’s winning odds based on the model created by Philippe Boulsink. Based on these two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to watch throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide best bet analysis and update this post throughout the day to report important news regarding injuries, roster changes and the departure of reserve goalkeepers.

The number to watch is the « Diff ». which is the percentage difference between the projected Win% of the model and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds convert to percentages, use our odds calculator.

Recommended bets 💰

Carolina Hurricanes (vs. NJD) ML-147

The Hurricanes are in the midst of a shocking three-year losing streak, despite holding a 132-73 lead over their opponents (44-24 per game). In these three games, they won the battle xG 12.1 to 9.0. Carolina caught fire in late November and in its last 20 games, it led the NHL in xGF/60 (3.63) with the lowest xGA/60 (2.55), going 15-2- 3 in the process. They were dominant. Meanwhile, New Jersey is 17th in xGF% (51.24) and 9-8-3, dropping back to the field after a ridiculously hot start. Carolina is the home favorite at -147, but the model sees them at -180, so there’s a lot of value here.

Bet of 2 units: CAR ML -147

St. Louis Blues (vs. CGY) ML +145

Despite numerous injuries, the Blues have played well recently, winning three of their last four games while outscoring their opponents 18-13. Calgary continues to seek consistency after a 4-3 overtime loss at Chicago. The road has been a problem for the Flames, going 7-7-6 in 20 road games. Getting the Blues as +145 home favorites is solid value – the model sees them as +103 underdogs.

1 unit bet: STL ML +145

Colorado Avalanche (against FLA) ML-126

The Avalanche are coming off an impressive overtime victory in Edmonton this weekend. They did a stellar job limiting Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to 5-5 and will look to do the same tonight against Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers have underperformed so far, but the market still has a lot of respect for them. The model thinks the Avalanche are a huge favorite at -172, so getting them at -126 is a game.

2-unit game: COL ML -126
