NFL: Xavien Howard agrees on restructuring his contract

MIAMI – All-star cornerback Xavien Howard agreed to a restructuring of his contract with the Miami Dolphins just 12 days after requesting a trade.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said Sunday he was not worried about the situation and always wanted to retain Howard’s services.

Financial details of the new deal were not disclosed. Howard still had four seasons to go at the five-season contract extension he signed in May 2019.

Howard’s agent David Canter thanked the Dolphins for exploring this solution, which he described as unexpected.

Howard intercepted 10 assists last season, the highest total in the NFL since 2007.

He’s been bothered by an ankle injury since the start of camp.
