Barkley had failed to reach a multi-season deal with the Giants by the July 17 deadline for players with the franchise player tag and expressed frustration with the negotiation process.
The 26-year-old played in 16 games last season, amassing 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns on 295 carries. Invited twice to the Pro Bowl, the former Penn State will begin his sixth campaign in the NFL.
