Wages in cryptocurrencies, a new trend among sports athletes?

Beckham Junior is not the first athlete to take the leap. Indeed, Russell okung, american football star, has been paid in Bitcoin since 2020.

In April 2021, Vivek Ranadivé, the owner of the Sacramento Kings (NBA franchise), has expressed its willingness to offer salaries in Bitcoin, optional, to players and staff.

Likewise, at the beginning of November, the star of the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers announced a similar deal with Cash App, allowing him to receive part of his salary in cryptocurrency.

This decision marks a further step in the adoption of cryptocurrencies, and particularly Bitcoin, in the world of sports.

These make it possible to diversify income, in a complicated and inflationary post-Covid context. Sports clubs also seek to adapt to a public increasingly sensitive to cryptocurrencies, as shown for example by the success of the collectible football cards of Sorare.
