LAS VEGAS — Former running back Mashawn Lynch was asleep and smelling of alcohol when Las Vegas police found him in his damaged sports car. Police arrested him on suspicion of impaired driving, according to an arrest report released Thursday.

Lynch’s attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, responded in a statement that Lynch’s car was « parked carefully and not running » when police arrived early Tuesday and a drunk driving charge would not hold.

“Marshwan has not been arrested for impaired driving. We are confident that when all the evidence is presented, this will not be impaired driving under Nevada rules,” the statement said.

The arresting officer, Kevin Barker, reported that the black 2020 Shelby GT500 was “unserviceable,” with a missing front wheel as well as damage to the rear wheel behind the driver and the front passenger-side wheel.

The arrest report says investigators found marks that suggest the vehicle « hit a sidewalk, » before coming to a stop in an industrial area of downtown Las Vegas near Main Street.

« The driver was asleep at the wheel with the driver’s side door open, his eyes watering with blood. He had one shoe on his foot and the other shoe removed,” the report said.

The arrest, which occurred at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, came a day after the Seattle Seahawks announced that Lynch had been hired as a special correspondent. Lynch played the majority of his 12 season career with the Seahawks.

He also played with the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders.

The report also says that Lynch was not cooperating with the police and that he fell asleep several times while being questioned. Jail officers ‘had to use a restraining chair to force a blood draw’ after a judge issued a warrant.

Lynch was released from prison in Las Vegas with a trial scheduled for December 7.

The results of his blood tests were not made public immediately. Nevada laws do not accept driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Lynch’s attorneys said in a statement that he « appreciates and is grateful for everyone’s support. »

Lynch had 10,413 career rushing yards and 85 rushing touchdowns between 2007 and 2019. He was a five-time Pro Bowl pick and won the Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2013.
