Everything seems to indicate that Aaron Rodgers will have to do without the one he calls his new number 1 receiver since the Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams during the offseason.
Allen Lazard has been listed as a doubtful case for Sunday’s season opener at the Minnesota Vikings. Lazard didn’t train at all this week due to an ankle injury he suffered the previous week. He said on Friday it happened when a tackle stepped on him in practice.
Asked if he considered it an injury that could sideline him for several weeks, Lazard said on Friday: « I can’t see after tomorrow, » before adding that he would be okay.
If Lazard can’t play, veteran Sammy Watkins, who signed with the Packers this offseason in an attempt to revive his career, could become Rodgers’ No. 1 target. After a slow start to camp, Rodgers began to connect more and more on games with Watkins.
« I’ve never been so sharp, » Watkins said of how he feels on the Packers’ offense. Just to be this alert, it feels good to go out there and play free and play fast. It’s awesome. »
It could also mean significant playing time for Packers rookie receivers Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson.
Tight end Robert Tonyan, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury last year, should also be available. He was cleared to play and was removed from the injury report.
