Air sportsHannah Wilkes, NFL Fantasy Football guru of ‘Sky Sports’, helps you navigate your way through the 2021 season, this week celebrating Thanksgiving week in the NFL…

Happy Thanksgiving football fans!

A Thursday night football feast (and hopefully some food) awaits us with three holiday games to kick off the Week 12 slate in the NFL. We’re heading into the Fantasy Football playoffs as well, so collecting points and planning ahead as we enter the holiday season is key.

With the Arizona Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Overtime is goodbye this week. Stellar company, right? But we still bring you some potentially useful fantastic advice and a shocking endorsement from a team that (probably) went unrecorded in 11 Weeks of Fantasy Football.

MVP Candidate: Jonathan Taylor

Have a thought for those who found themselves in a fantastic game against Jonathan taylor last Sunday (or even in of them such situations … no, I’m not bitter): five touchdowns, over 200 total yards, 53.40 fantasy points! And a hat tossed in the MVP ring.

He might have been a hot and cold fantastic prospect last year, but this year JT is on fire, especially with the Indianapolis Colts addiction to the racing game in recent weeks. This Sunday they welcome the defending champions, aka « Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers », who have the best running defense in the league and therefore a more difficult day for Taylor, but he is still RB1 and now the all-time leading scorer. Fantasy Football. Don’t panic over the match-up and drop it (because I know someone will).

Thanksgiving Tips

If you are looking for a sleeper to get you started on Thanksgiving Thursday, this could be Tony Pollardis night. Ezekiel Elliot struggles with his knee. The Dallas Cowboys passing game is exhausted with CeeDee Lamb battling a concussion and Amari Cooper with Covid-19. Additionally, Joe Mixon rioted against the Las Vegas Raiders’ run defense last week, which adds to increased use for Pollard.

Tony Pollard (L) could be set up for an increased workload for Thanksgiving in the absence of Ezekiel Elliott (R)

Meanwhile, in a game to win for the Buffalo Bills against the New Orleans Saints, Cole beasley should see a lot of targets. The Saints’ defense is solid and they’ll be all over Stefon Diggs, so Beasley should capitalize as Buffalo looks to use his chemistry with Josh Allen.

The Texans ?!

I can’t believe I’m writing this after what we’ve seen in the first 10 weeks of the season but… there is an advantage in taking over the Houston Texans Defense in Week 12 as they face the New York Jets on Sunday.

In case you missed it, the Texans beat the Tennessee Titans at the top of the AFC last weekend, thanks in large part to five defensive takeaways. They also held the Titans to no scoring during the first half. (A really bad week to have Ryan Tannehill as a quarterback, by the way… no, I’m still not bitter).

So, facing the « offensively challenged » Jets, and with rookie Zach Wilson back under center for the first time since Week 7, an offensive line that saw the guy be sacked 15 times in three weeks (although ‘it got a bit better), and the guys in green giving defenses more fantasy points than any other team, I’ll say it again: Defense of the Texans for week 12.

And, if you really feel it, Rex Burkhead will likely see a lot of volume against a D-Jets who leads the league in fantastic points surrendered to running backs. They also give up a ton of quarterback points, and with Tyrod taylorAdditional racing ability makes it a viable option if you lose a QB this week.

Cam man!

Last week I wrote: “ Cam Newton is not a guaranteed fantastic success but is worth a volley kick ”. Then Lamar Jackson was inactive for the Baltimore Ravens, so fantastic players flocked to pick up the Panthers QB1, who paid back support to the tune of 235 yards of scrimmage, three touchdowns and 26 points! His ability to run on his own makes him an excellent and fantastic prospect, but he is still (at the time of writing) available in half of the Fantasy Football leagues on NFL.com! WHAT!?

Cam Newton ran for 24 yards to score the Carolina Panthers' second touchdown of the night against the Washington soccer team last week.

For more background: Newton faces the Miami Dolphins this week ahead of a Week 13 and Week 14 game against the Atlanta Falcons. In Week 14 the Philadelphia Eagles are goodbye and so that means no Jalen Hurts, who is QB1 in all of Fantasy Football this season. At a time when playoff spots are on the line, do the math and pick up Cam.

I am grateful for …

The fact that Jalen Hurts’ fantastic experience is going quite well. I am grateful for Cooper Kupp and his magical journey. I’m grateful (and somewhat amazed) to be 10-1 in the league I automatically drafted into. Glad people can get together on Thanksgiving to watch football with friends, eat all the food, and drink beer from the helmet hats with the twisted straws. I’m grateful for the mad rush that the NFL is in 2021, for the whole team that makes Sky Sports NFL what it is, and that by a glorious twist of fate, talking about this sport that I fell in love with is my real job.

And coffee. I am grateful for the coffee!

Live coverage of the NFL Thanksgiving action begins on Sky Sports NFL starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, with the Chicago Bears vs. the Detroit Lions (6 p.m.), followed by the Las Vegas Raiders vs. the Dallas Cowboys ( 9:30 p.m.) and the Buffalo Bills vs. the New Orleans Saints (1:20).
