Quarterback Brian Hoyer will return with the New England Patriots, ESPN reported on Monday.
The position is already well occupied with Cam Newton, the 2021 overall first pick Mac Jones as well as Jarrett Stidham, now in his third year.
Hoyer was the first reservist at the start of last season before ending up as number 3 behind Stidham after week four. He had been consistent during training camp but lost a gallon along the way.
He was named a starter at week 4 when Newton tested positive for COVID-19. The Pats lost this game 26-10.
As a free agent, the 35-year veteran paid a visit to the New York Jets to be Zach Wilson’s second.
Hoyer also made trips with the Pats from 2009 to 2011 and from 2017 to 2018.
