NFL: Bears deprive Lions of first win by winning 16-14 late in game

As tradition has it, three NFL games are scheduled for Thanksgiving Day in the United States and each of these will be brought to you on RDS and RDS Direct.

The Detroit Lions were in the game until the end in front of their fans in the Thanksgiving Day opener in the United States, but their first win of the season will have to wait.

Kicker Cairo Santos ended the Lions’ hopes with a winning 28-yard field goal on the last play of the game to give the Chicago Bears a 16-14 victory.

“It was important this week to believe in each other on the team,” said Santos. Hopefully it can revive us. «

The Bears (4-7) ended a five-game losing streak under coach Matt Nagy, who was still answering questions about his job security less than 48 hours before kick-off .

“We’ve had some distractions the last few days,” Nagy said. (This victory), it shows all the character of the guys in this locker room. «

The Lions (0-10-1) made many mistakes to extend their streak to 15 games without a win. This streak of failure dates back to their last victory over Chicago almost a year ago.

Andy Dalton, replacing rookie Justin Fields as quarterback, led the Bears to a decisive offensive streak that lasted 8:30 minutes to allow Santos to wrap up the game with a field goal on the very last play. Fields injured his ribs on Sunday in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Jared Goff returned to the game after missing a game with an oblique injury. He had 171 passing yards, two of which led to touchdowns.

One of Goff’s winning passes went to Josh Reynolds for 39 yards, on the Lions’ first rise.

The other was TJ Hockenson for 17 yards late in the third quarter – that gave the Lions a 14-13 priority.

Amani Oruwariye intercepted a Dalton pass in the end zone late in the second quarter.

The Lions received 10 penalties.

“A second down and 25 yards or a third down and 32 yards, it really narrows down the play selection,” said Lions coach Dan Campbell.

Fields injured his ribs on Sunday in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Lions lost the services of running back De’Andre Swift in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.

The Bears will receive the Cards from Arizona on December 5th.

As for the Lions, they will welcome the Minnesota Vikings on the same day.
