NFL: 40-day retirement: Tom Brady felt pressure

Tom Brady has publicly commented on his decision to come out of retirement after just 40 days, as part of the latest edition of « The Match, » an exhibition event where the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks compete on the golf courses.

On the airwaves of the TNT channel, the veteran quarterback said he felt pressure a few days before the opening of the free agent market in the NFL. In the absence of a decision for the rest of his career, Brady had therefore decided to retire to engage with his family.

“At the time, I was undecided. It was a 55% yes and a 45% no. I hadn’t made a 100% decision. It was just the reality,” revealed Brady, who teamed up with golfer Aaron Rodgers in the duel against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.

« It may seem like I’m not 100% committed to my decision. It’s just that I didn’t have to delay in my thinking process and I felt pressure from the free agent market. You cannot decide to take part in a marathon only two weeks before the latter. So I had to make a quick decision,” added Brady, who will be celebrating his 45the birthday in August.

“When you’re the age of Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, you’re 100% up for it. However, when you get older, your responsibilities change and your thinking is different about what to do next in your career. Lots of people take care of me and matter to me. The older you get, the fuller your life outside the football fields becomes,” added the 22-year NFL veteran.

Tom Brady is under contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season. At the end of the season, he will become an unrestricted free agent. He did not address his future beyond the next campaign.
