News on the arrival of Porsche in F1

Porsche has just registered the slogan « F1nally » which should mark, not without humour, its return to Formula 1 in 2026: all the lights are green.

The German brand has been playing Arles with F1 for a long time now. But the clues are piling up week after week and their future plans should be known very soon.

Porsche should join forces with Red Bull while Audi, another brand of the VAG group, would have explored a partnership with several teams, possibly by buying one of them in this case Sauber.

It emerged on Monday that Porsche had requested the use of the term « F1nally », the translation of which will be understood by all, with the German Patent and Trademark Office.

It suggests a lot of work is going on behind the scenes for the imminent announcement of a Formula 1 involvement in 2026.

Porsche was last involved in F1 in 1991, as an engine supplier to Footwork/Arrows, while Audi never set foot in the championship.

Before that, Porsche’s greatest Grand Prix success came as an engine supplier to McLaren in the 1980s, with TAG/Porsche-stamped turbo V6s through 1987, winning 24 races between 84 and 1987, as well only two constructors’ championships in 1984 and 85.

Previously, in the sixties, it was as a competitor in its own right that Porsche took its only F1 victory thanks to Dan Gurney during the 1962 French Grand Prix in Rouen.
