Floridien Priskie makes NHL debut with Panthers
Defenseman Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) Became the first player born and trained in Florida to wear the Panthers uniform. The South Florida native, who was part of the Panthers’ Learn to Play program as a child, made his NHL debut against the club that drafted him more than five years ago (177th overall for WSH in 2016).
Edmonton to retire Kevin Lowe’s No.4
Ten teams are in action on Friday, including the Oilers who will retire former defenseman Kevin Lowe’s No. 4 ahead of their game against the Rangers. Lowe will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame later this month as a Class of 2020 member.
- Lowe won five Stanley Cups with Edmonton (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990) and one with New York (1994), winning the latter championship with his Oilers teammates Glenn Anderson, Jeff Beukeboom, Adam Graves, Craig MacTavish, Mark Messier and Esa Tikkanen. Only nine players have won more Stanley Cups than Lowe (since 1917-18) – his six wins are also tied with Anderson and Messier for most among the 1979 NHL Draft, which is considered the one of the best in league history.
- Lowe (74-309-383 in 1,037 GP) is the only player in franchise history to appear in 1,000 regular season games with Edmonton. His 309 assists and 383 points put him second among Oilers defenders behind Paul Coffey (209-460-669 in 532 GP), while his 74 goals follow Coffey and Charlie Huddy (81-287-368 in 694 GP) .
