Discussions are underway to allow the team that will be the champion of the North section to play its home games in Canada during the last two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs, against an American team.
Thus, the mandatory 14-day quarantine, currently in place in Canada when returning from the United States, would be officially bypassed. An NHL spokesperson said the league was awaiting responses from governments.
Because time is running out: the champion team in the North section will have an appointment with an American team in the semi-finals. It will be the first confrontation between a Canadian team and an American team this season.
The alternative would be for the Canadian team participating in the semi-final, and possibly the final, to move to the United States with a temporary home. Other professional Canadian teams from other sports have done so.
