Calgary Goals: Lindholm (2), Gudbranson, Gaudreau

After the top two teams in the Western Conference came together for a ceremonial puck drop to celebrate the 10th anniversary of You Can Play, Johnny Gaudreau (1-2-3) scored in overtime to help the Flames (33-14-7, 73 points) hand the Avalanche (40-11-5, 85 points) their sixth loss in the ball arena this season.

Calgary improved to 13-1-1 in its last 15 games since Jan. 29, posting four wins and six more points than the closest clubs in that stretch.

Saturday marked the ninth three-point outing of the season for Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk (0-3-3), which tied Mikko Rantanen Colorado for the second most of any player in 2021-22. Leon Draisaitl of Edmonton (12) is the only player to have more.

Cale Makar took his total to 18-42-60 (52 GP), becoming the first defenseman to reach 60 points this season, while being the one who needed the fewest games to do so among all the defenders of franchise history. In doing so, Makar extended his points and assists streak to 11 games (0-16-16), which is the second-longest point streak by an Avalanche/Nordiques defenseman, behind Steve Duchesne (15 GP in 1992-93).

Makar is on pace to reach 90 points in 2021/22, a milestone an NHL defenseman has never reached in his lifetime. The Avalanche mainstay can become the first defenseman to reach at least 90 points in a single season since Hockey Hall of Famer Ray Bourque did it with the Bruins in 1993/94 (20-71 -91 in 72 GP).
