Newcastle stalls, Norwich raises its head, Wolverhampton charts its course / Premier League / J22 / Summary / SOFOOT.com

Newcastle 1-1 Watford

Goals: Saint-Maximin (49and) for the Magpies // João Pedro (88and) for the Hornets

The sledgehammer. In a crucial match, with its two rookies Trippier and Wood from the kick-off, Newcastle were caught late in the game by Watford. Despite several situations – including a bar – for Joelinton in the first period, it took an individual feat from Saint-Maximin to make the difference. Leaving from the touchline, the former Niçois took care of everything to come and relieve the Magpies. But Watford pushed hard to come back, and ended up being rewarded with a helmet shot from João Pedro who came to freeze St James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s men remain stuck in the relegation zone.

Norwich 2-1 Everton

Goals: Keane (16and, SCC) and Idah (18and) for the Canary Islands // Richarlison (60and) for the Toffees

The Canary Islands resume their flight. Unable to score since the end of November, Norwich brought down Everton where the days of Rafael Benítez now seem numbered. After a good quarter of an hour, the Toffees got scuttled. From an improbable counter-camp from Keane first, before letting Idah escape full axis. Richarlison may have signed a jewel a few minutes after coming into play with a superb acrobatic return, Everton are now looking down.

Wolverhampton 3-1 Southampton

Goals: Jimenez (37and, SP), Coady (59and) and Traore (90and+1) for the wolves // Ward-Prowse(84and) for the Saints

The Wolves continue to roar. In the wake of their good start to the year, the Wolverhampton players let the good start to the Saints before taking over. Molineux celebrated his people for the first time on a penalty stupidly conceded by Bednarek, and transformed by Jiménez. Very solid defensively this season, Bruno Lage’s men doubled the lead through Conor Coady, who can thank Forster’s terrible outing. The Welsh defense however gave way for the first time in 2022, on a masterful free kick from specialist James Ward-Prowse. Useless, despite Romain Perraud’s header on the bar in the last minutes, especially since Adama Traoré ended his drought in front of goal in stride.
