New York player hit in the head by can of beer in Portland final
“It was a crazy game. These words are signed by Ronny Deila, the Norwegian coach of New York City, winner of the MLS final this Saturday against Portland (1-1, 4-2 on the tabs). Emirati galaxy club City Football Group, like Manchester City, have won their first North American Championship title, seven years after making their debut.

The match was however interrupted by an incident, reminiscent of the aggression of Dimitri Payet, during the recent OL-OM: just after the opening of the scoring by the New Yorker Valentin Castellanos (41st), and while the players congratulating each other, Paraguayan Jesus Medina was hit in the head by a can of beer thrown from the stands. The player was able to resume the match and his attacker was arrested and immediately banned from the stadium by the Portland Timbers who hosted this 2021 final.
The stoppage of the game was very brief and the scenario ended up smiling in New York, despite the equalizer of Felipe Mora for Portland in the very last seconds of regulation time.
