New York City misses a great opportunity

New York City FC had the chance to move up in the standings ahead of Big Apple rivals New York Red Bulls, but Charlotte FC shrugged off a red card to win 1-0 on Saturday. at Bank of America Stadium.

NYCFC remain fourth in Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Eastern Conference, one point behind the Red Bulls, going into tonight’s games. The opportunity was still good with an opponent who was defending at 10.

Charlotte captain Christian Fuchs was kicked out of the game in the 56th minute for elbowing defender Tayvon Gray. After consultation with the video replay, the official awarded the Austrian a red.

New York, however, only framed one shot towards goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina throughout the game. The only goal was scored by Daniel Rios on a deflection of the head, in the fifth minute of play.

Charlotte is only the second expansion team in MLS history to defeat the defending league champions twice in the same season. On August 17, the North Carolina squad defeated NYCFC 3-1.
