NBA summary of December 23: a memorable performance from Joel Embiid and James Harden

James Harden tied a team record with 21 assists and Joel Embiid scorched with 44 points as the Philadelphia 76ers earned their seventh straight 119-114 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.

Harden’s 21 assists are a career high for the bearded man, who completed his hat-trick with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The brilliance of the star duo allowed the Sixers to close a 20-point deficit at some point in the 2nd quarter.

Harden now shares the team record for assists in a game with Wilt Chamberlain and Maurice Cheeks.

Embiid also saw his name linked to that of Chamberlain by joining him for 2nd in Sixers history in games with 40 or more points.

The Sixers have made their home a true fortress by signing a 7th consecutive victory during their stay at home. Philadelphia is now 19-12 after playing for .500 in the first 24 games of the season.

In the loss, Kawhi Leonard had one of his best performances of the season with 28 points. Paul George added 22 and Norman Powell 21.

Doncic dazzles

Luka Doncic scored 50 points for the Dallas Mavericks to a 112-106 win over the Houston Rockets.

Doncic is the ninth player to reach this milestone this season. Earlier last season, he had a career-best 51 points against the Clippers.

Doncic added 10 assists but just missed the hat-trick as he picked up eight rebounds. He is only the fourth player in NBA history with multiple games of at least 50 points, five rebounds and five assists before age 24.

Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans each had 11 points in the win.

Among the Rockets, the 24 points of Jabari Smith Jr. and the 23 points of Jalen Green will not have made it possible to sign a victory. Smith added 10 rebounds.
