July 16: With the approach of free agency, as every year there have been a lot of rumors, and even though franchises are not allowed to discuss with players and their representatives before the market opens , we already knew where some players would go. Indeed, the signatures of Jalen Brunson to the Knicks and P.J. Tucker to the Sixers were revealed even before June 30 at 6 p.m. US time. But beyond that, we already knew the contract they were going to sign.
You don’t have to be a genius to think there must have been some contact before free agency opened, and unsurprisingly Marc Stein reports that the NBA should look into the signings of Brunson and Tucker to see if there were irregularities.
After the crazy 2020 free agency where many signings had been announced before the opening, Adam Silver had banged his fist on the table and some teams were sanctioned, such as the Bucks, the Heat and the Bulls. They lost a second-round draft pick, and it could be the same punishment for the Knicks and Sixers.
