Minnesota Timberwolves player Anthony Edwards is under investigation for homophobic comments he made over the weekend.
In a video posted to his « stories » on Instagram, the 21-year-old filmed a group of people inside a car and described them using homophobic language. The video was later deleted.
“What I said was immature, hurtful and disrespectful. I am incredibly sorry. It is unacceptable for me or anyone to use this type of language in such a hurtful way. There are no excuses for that. I was raised better than that,” Edwards wrote on his Twitter account on Sunday.
The Timberwolves also reacted to player comments they selected with the first-ever pick in the 2020 draft.
« We are disappointed with the language and actions of Anthony Edwards on social media, » President Tim Connelly said in a statement released Monday. The Timberwolves are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization for all and apologize for the hurt this has caused so many people.”
According to ESPN, the NBA is currently investigating the matter and may punish Edwards.
