Each season, the NBA Draft is a major event followed by millions of fans. And inevitably, all eyes are on the player who will be chosen first. And in 2023, it could be a Frenchman: Victor Wembanyama. As the pressure only increases, the 18-year-old star has delivered himself to the next Draft 2023.

Today it’s Killian Hayes who holds the record Draft for a Frenchman. Indeed, in 2020, he was chosen in 7th position by the Pistons of Detroit. A record that should however be shattered within a few months. Indeed, in view of the Draft 2023, all eyes are on Victor Wembanyama. At 18, the French crack, which will evolve with the Metropolitans 92 this season, will then make the leap to the NBA. And everything indicates that he could be the number 1 of the Draft. Observers are unanimous on the other side of the Atlantic, it is a future talent in the making who is promised a bright future in the NBA.

“There must be no one in front of me”

Announced as the future number 1 of the Draft 2023, Victor Wembanyama spoke out on the matter. And reported by RMCthe Frenchman explained: Sportingly, the most interesting thing is to always fall into an organization that will take care of the project and the player. I have no doubt about that. It’s better to be 2nd, 3rd or 20th if you have a better career afterwards. But I still have this part, I don’t know if it’s pride, of telling myself that there must be no one in front of me, that I must be above « .

“It brings me no stress”

Relaunched then on the pressure which must only increase about him as his arrival in the NBA approaches, Wembanyama added :  » Against all expectations, what I keep in mind is that everything I do is for myself. The expectations of each other have nothing to do with my career. It brings me no stress. I’m really into my thing and everything I do comes from me, my thinking, my work. I have in mind what I will accomplish in the future. And I had in mind before what I have already accomplished. It doesn’t stem from anyone’s expectation but myself « .
