NBA: eight-player transaction between the Thunder and the Rockets

The Houston Rockets will acquire center Derrick Favors and a 2025 second-round pick in an eight-man trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources told ESPN Thursday night.

The Thunder will get two draft picks and save $1 million in salary in a deal that sends Favors, guards Ty Jerome and Theo Maledon and forward Moe Harkless to the Rockets for David Nwaba, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss, according to sources.

The Thunder are sending a 2025 second-round pick acquired this week in another trade to the Atlanta Hawks, the sources say.

This transaction allows the Thunder to pass approximately $10 million below the luxury tax threshold. After the trade, the Thunder and Rockets both have 18 guaranteed contracts on their respective rosters and will need to reduce them to 15 by Oct. 17.
