NASCAR Truck: Sheldon Creed emerges from a chaotic race at Darlington (+ video)

The Darlington Oval features races from all three major NASCAR series this weekend. If the Cup event will take place tomorrow and that of the Xfinity series this afternoon, that of the vans which took place yesterday evening was expensive in equipment! Marked by a 17-vehicle crash 30 laps from the end of the race which eliminated the favorites (the Toyotas of Kyle Busch Motorsports), it saw Sheldon Creed win after having managed to get ahead of Ben Rhodes in the last two restarts in extension.

The event was marked by a multitude of clashes and 12 neutralizations for a total of 66 of the 147 laps under the yellow flag. Creed, the 2020 series champion, collected a bonus of $ 50,000 for winning the event which was the first since the end of 2019 without Quebecer Raphaël Lessard on track. His replacement, American Ryan Reed finished 12th with the No.24 Chevrolet from GMS Racing.

Creed’s victory is the first of the season for GMS Racing, Creed’s first at Darlington and the sixth of his career. Not only did that end Kyle Busch Motorsports’ record five win streak, but also Toyota’s seven wins in seven races in the first third of the season.

Carson Hocevar, Matt Crafton, Grant Finallyger, Johnny Sauter, Timmy Hill, John Hunter Nemechek (championship leader), Austin Wayne Self and Jordan Anderson rounded out the Top 10. For the full rankings, click here. For the video of the best moments, see below…
