Nantes and Lens neutralize each other in Ligue 1

Lens will not occupy third place in the standings at the end of the 8th day of Ligue 1. Traveling to La Beaujoire on Sunday, the Sang et Or conceded their third draw of the season (0-0) against a FC Nantes who needed to stop the bleeding, after two defeats in a row in the Championship.

From the start, the Nantes people put in place a very high pressing, which could have borne fruit from the 8th minute of play. After a ball recovered by Pedro Chirivella, Mostafa Mohamed was launched by the Spanish midfielder into the Lens area. But, embarrassed by the return of a defender, the Egyptian opened his foot too much against Brice Samba. Twelve minutes later, the Nantes block, well installed in the opposing camp, forced a bad recovery from the Lensois goalkeeper, ultimately without consequence (20th).

Undoubtedly blunted by their long trip to Baku (Azerbaijan) in the middle of the week, the Canaries fell off the pace from the half-hour mark. If the Lensois had already alerted Alban Lafont to a long shot off target from Przemyslaw Frankowski (13th) and a recovery from Jimmy Cabot easily captured (17th), the Nantes people experienced their first scare on a shot from the latter diverted for a corner by Jean-Charles Castelletto (31st). In the aftermath, David Pereira Da Costa, far too free in the Nantes area, saw his shot being blocked by Nicolas Pallois (33rd).

In the second period, it was not the entry on the Nantes side of Ignatius Ganago (74th) against his former club or that on the Lensois side of Gaël Kakuta (81st), author of his first minutes in Ligue 1 since August 31 ( against Lorient), which changed the course of the match. Lens stumbled on a solid Nantes defense, despite the premature exit of Pallois (56th) and Nantes was narrowly missed when he found himself in the opposing camp, like this completely missed strike from Samuel Moutoussamy ( 64th), directly in the stands.

Before the international break, the Canaries are fifteenth in Ligue 1 with 7 points while the Lensois left their third place to Lorient, winner of Auxerre on Friday evening (3-1).

Despite this draw, Lens still signed a sixteenth match without defeat in a row in the Championship. The Sang et Or have not lost since April 3, 2022 and a defeat in Strasbourg (0-1).
