Ferrari has announced that the first tests of its Hypercar, which will take part in the WEC championship in 2023, will take place in June or July at its Fiorano circuit. At the same time, the Italian brand is also developing its future 296 GT3. It is AF Corse which directs the operations, the car being built by Oreca.
« We will start testing the new Hypercar hopefully in June or July, and the new GT3 more or less early April. These activities will be very important to create a good basis for the future, » said Antonello Coletta, the man in charge of Ferrari Attivita Sportive GT.
« We will start at our Fiorano circuit, because it is a tradition and it requires a minimum of effort, we just have to open the door and start the engine and I can watch from the window of my desk ! »
Coletta also explained that it made sense given Ferrari’s DNA for the brand to choose the Hypercar category for its big comeback in prototypes, and not the LMDh, which will replace the LMP2 from next year. image of what Audi, Porsche or even BMW will do.
« When Ferrari decided to invest in the best category, it was necessarily to go to Hypercar. So we really had no choice, it’s in our philosophy. I can say that the project is developing very quickly. It’s complicated because Hypercars are more difficult to develop than LMDhs, but that’s what we chose. »
