24 Hours of Le Mans: Button will drive (...)

Garage 56’s 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans project was already very intriguing, and it has gained further interest with the announcement of its crew. Garage 56 is reserved for a non-category car, not meeting any WEC regulations, and being innovative.

This year, it will be a modified NASCAR car, a Chevrolet Camaro entered by the Hendrick Motorsports team. Despite its revised aero kit, and several changes in its design, it promises to stand out in the peloton of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

We now know which drivers will take the wheel during the double round of the clock. As expected, Jimmie Johnson will be part of the trio, the seven-time NASCAR champion having a special connection with Chevrolet and with Hendrick Motorsports.

Mike Rockenfeller will also be in the car, the two-time winner of the event having contested a NASCAR race at Watkins Glen last year. The German will be able to take advantage of his expertise on the Sarthois circuit.

But the last name is the most surprising, since it is Jenson Button who will accompany the two men. The 2009 F1 world champion will therefore make his debut at the wheel of a NASCAR Cup car, even if it has been greatly revised.
