Cole Caufield is back.
The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that Caufield has been recalled from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
After a strong performance in the Habs’ run to the Stanley Cup Final last spring, Caufield entered the 2021-22 season as a favorite to win the Calder Trophy for NHL’s top rookie.
Caufield struggled early on, having only had one assist in his first 10 games of the season. The Habs sent him to the AHL to regain his confidence, where he scored two goals and received five assists in six games.
The Habs are in dire need of help offensively and the hope is that Caufield can give them just that. Montreal is 4-12-2 this season, they rank 26th in the league with 38 goals and have scored more than two goals in just four of their 18 games this season.
