While on ESPN’s « Gab & Juls Show » podcast, the colorful character made some interesting statements. Among other things, he recalled that he had dominated the Garber circuit in 2018 and 2019, before returning to Europe.
“I am grateful to MLS because it gave me the chance to feel alive. But the problem was that I was too alive. I was too good for the whole competition. That’s what I showed”, mentioned the Swede.
« I’m the best player to ever play in MLS and I’m not saying that with my ego or because I’m trying to show off. It’s the truth,” said Ibrahimovic, who scored 53 goals in 58 games for the Galaxy.
The striker liked the way things are done in North America and the means taken to publicize soccer. He himself had been quite a marketing machine when he took a page from the entire Los Angeles Times to write, « Dear Los Angeles, you’re welcome. » upon his arrival in the city of angels.
A return?
At 40, Ibrahimovic is still evolving at the highest level, with AC Milan. Before coming to MLS, he had a short stint at Manchester United. He had seriously injured his knee there, but had recovered well with the Galaxy.
“I think it was the best way for me to come back from injury. I was in the best physical condition. And I’m proud to have played in MLS, because they said the stadiums were pretty empty. There was no empty stadium when I was playing,” he added.
Who knows, the indefatigable Zlatan might one day return to North America to own a club, as David Beckham did with Inter Miami CF.
“You never know, maybe I will come back one day. To show them, to remind them what real soccer is,” he concluded.
