MLS unveils its 2021 calendar

The 27 teams in Major League Soccer now know what to expect, as the Garber Circuit released its full 2021 season schedule on Wednesday afternoon.

As it had already announced, the MLS will begin its campaign on April 16 and as regards CF Montreal, the serious things will begin the following day with a duel against the Toronto FC at the stadium of Inter Miami CF, which will serve as temporary home at the eleven montréalais pending the opening of the border between Canada and the United States. This will be the first of three planned shocks against the Reds, which he will also encounter on August 27 and October 23.

After the opening meet, head coach Wilfried Nancy’s squad will visit Nashville SC seven days later. For her first 10 outings, she will alternate between her home Florida and the stadium of her opponents, visits to the Vancouver Whitecaps (if possible), Atlanta United FC, the Chicago Fire and again Nashville SC being on schedule.

In addition, the MLS seems to have kept an open door for the return of CF Montreal to Stade Saputo, because the schedule indicates that as of July 3, the team will play its local games in the Quebec metropolis. Obviously, everything will be conditional on various reductions from local authorities in several respects, particularly travel.

Thus, CF Montreal has three consecutive home games from July 3 to 17, against Inter Miami CF, New York City FC and FC Cincinnati, in order. He will end the campaign with two duels at home, on November 3 and 7 against the Dynamo of Houston and the Orlando City SC.

All parts of the Montreal squad will be presented on the TVA Sports channel.

Lots of « regional matches »

The MLS season features several events that are sure to capture the attention of fans, including the debut of Austin FC. The Texan club will play for the first time in MLS on April 17 while visiting Los Angeles FC and are due to open their new stadium, Q2 Stadium, in June. Two other teams will meet in brand new stadiums, namely FC Cincinnati and defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew on May 16 and July 3, respectively.

Each club will play 34 games and the MLS wanted to focus on regional duels. For example, CF Montreal will only play twice against western clubs, Vancouver and Houston.

The first seven teams from each of the two associations will advance to the series. These will begin on November 19, a dozen days after the end of the regular calendar.

The MLS final is scheduled for December 11 and will also be broadcast on TVA Sports.
