MLS: summary of games including the one between the Whitecaps and the Rapids

The Colorado Rapids secured their first win of the season with a Diego Rubio set-piece that led to a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday.

Whitecaps goaltender Maxime Crépeau gave in in the 26th minute on a 30-yard set piece from Rubio. The Chilean’s throw found the underside of the horizontal bar before hitting the net.

Vancouver believed they had a golden chance to tie the game late in the game when official Baldomero Toledo assigned a penalty to the locals, but his decision was revised after the video replay.

Although the Whitecaps had other scoring opportunities, they were unable to capitalize and the visitors came away with all three points and a first win in 2021.

Nashville SC can thank the official

After a draw against CF Montreal, Nashville SC had a similar result ahead of Inter Miami CF with a final score of 0-0 on Sunday.

The official seemed to offer Inter Miami quite a chance, but they seemed to change their minds at the last moment. In the 70th minute, Walker Zimmerman tripped Robbie Robinson as he walked towards the keeper.

The referee appeared to gesture for a red card as he took away an obvious scoring chance, but Rosendo Mendoza instead opted for a yellow card for Zimmerman. Lewis Morgan missed the free kick that followed and the chance to score was gone.

Robinson left the game following a hamstring injury.

Dom Badji could have played the heroes in stoppage time, but the redirect of his head missed the mark.

Daniel Lovitz had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock earlier in the game, but a miss in his ball control meant he eventually sent his shot over the net.

Easy at home for Sounders

The Seattle Sounders scored two close goals in the first half and added one late in the game to easily dispose of the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0 on Sunday night at Lumen Field.

Brad Smith created the opening for Raul Ruidiaz who scored in the 20e minute with a right-footed throw that easily beat goalkeeper Jonathan Bond.

Seattle then doubled their lead three minutes later when Smith used a second effort to extend their lead.

Ruidiaz added the insurance goal to the 93e minute with a strike on reception from substitute Jimmy Medranda.
