MLS soccer: Emmanuel Boateng propels the Revs and KC sinks further

Sporting Kansas City conceded a painful late goal only to lose 2-1 to the New England Revolution on Sunday.

KC is dead last in the Western Conference with 13 points, having amassed just three wins in 16 games so far.

The team came close to picking up a point but goalkeeper Tim Melia was thwarted in the 87th minute after giving Emmanuel Boateng a big comeback. It was his second goal of the campaign.

Gustavo Bou broke the ice with a goal in a second straight game for the Revs (5-5-4), who are eighth in the East.

Sporting played with a man down from the 48th minute due to a red card awarded to Oriol Rosell. That didn’t stop teammate Johnny Russell from scoring from a free kick just 4 minutes later to tie the game, however. Russell is the team’s top scorer with five goals.

Then Boateng sank Sporting at the end of the game, while goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic deserved the victory by having made a save on two shots on target.
