Major League Soccer (MLS) on Wednesday unveiled details relating to the first playoffs in the existence of MLS NEXT, the league created for academies last fall.

As a result, 128 teams across four age groups will compete for the MLS NEXT Cup from June 25 to July 3 in the Dallas area. Moreover, some matches will take place at the home of FC Dallas located in Frisco, Texas.
Athletes in the U15, U16, U17 and U19 categories will complete a 10 month long season in this way. In each of them, 32 formations – that is to say those having posted the best average of points obtained during the campaign – will be in contention. The duels will be knockout.

Moreover, this event will allow representatives of MLS teams to assess the talent of the young participants. The analysis of these will begin in the playoffs and will continue in 2021-2022, according to what the organization indicated.
As for unqualified teams, they will be able to take part in a side event, the MLS NEXT Cup Showcase, where they will play three times in four days. The athletes who have received the most attention will be invited to compete in the matches bringing together the most deserving of this “Showcase”.
