MLS: Impact’s first general manager Pino Asaro gives a poor explanation of the name change
When the Montreal Impact was created in 1992, its name was not on the list of its first general manager, Pino Asaro.
Almost 30 years later, the latter found it difficult to see the Impact change its name to what would be Montreal FC.
« I have a Montreal Impact logo on part of my heart, » Asaro confided during an interview with TSN.
According to what Radio-Canada reported, the Montreal formation would like to change its name, but nothing has yet been confirmed to this effect.
The name « Impact » was chosen in 1992 when the team was formed after the disbandment of the Montreal Supra. Asaro wonders about the motivations of the organization to want to change their identity.
“The Impact has a history and has won championships. I do not know. Honestly, I have no words to find a reason, ”he stressed.
The Impact saw its last season end with a setback against the New England Revolution.
