MLS: Charlotte FC make McKinze Gaines first pick in expansion draft
The Charlotte FC expansion draft took place Tuesday night in MLS.
Charlotte made Austin FC forward McKinze Gaines his first overall pick.
No CF Montreal player has been selected.
Charlotte then recruited second-place Atlanta United defenseman Anton Walkes, followed by DC United defenseman Joseph Mora.
Fourth was defenseman Tristan Blackmon of Los Angeles FC and forward Ismael Tajouri-Shradi of New York City FC.
The LAFC immediately repossessed Tajouri’s rights via an exchange for a stipend of $ 400,000.
Blackmon was also traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps for $ 350,000 in allowance for the 2022 season and an additional $ 125,000 in 2023.
The 25-year-old was the third overall pick in the 2018 MLS entry draft.

The CFM had protected defenders Zorhan Bassong, Zachary Brault-Guillard, Kamal Miller and Joel Waterman, midfielders Ahmed Hamdi, Lassi Lappalainen, Matko Miljevic, Samuel Piette and Joaquin Torres, as well as forwards Sunusi Ibrahim, Romell Quioto and Mason Toye.
