MLS: CFM snatch a draw in their first preseason match
ORLANDO, Fla. – CF Montreal drew a 2-2 draw at New York City FC in its first of four preseason games for the 2022 season, Saturday in Orlando, Florida.
Down two goals, Wilfried Nancy’s men came from behind thanks to goals from Joaquin Torres and Sunusi Ibrahim in the second half.
Thiago Andrade in the first half against Sebastian Breza and Andres Jasson in the second half against James Pantemis scored for New York City FC.
“We wanted to have short options when we had the ball and work on defensive transition. I also wanted us not to focus on the different system of play, but on when to attack the ball. There were great things and things to improve, said coach Wilfried Nancy. I liked that the players didn’t give up, which allowed us to score the equalizer in the last minutes of the game. We were in difficulty playing against the wind in the first half, but we were able to find solutions in the second half. Collectively, we were in line with the last training sessions. I wanted to mix the team today with more experienced players and younger players, while finding player associations. The idea was to have a balanced team in terms of player profiles and playing time.
« I played 45 minutes in the second half and it went pretty well, » said Rida Zouhir. There were good deeds and others not so good. It’s still too early to say that I develop automatisms with certain players, but that will come with time. I played in 8 on the right side and I had the freedom of the coach to juggle the available space either higher or lower depending on the situation. »
CF Montreal will play its next game on February 4 against Inter Miami CF.
