While the 2023 Major League Soccer season has started for more than three months, the CF Montreal franchise has just unveiled its new home jersey.
Last February, while adidas unveiled the new jerseys of the MLS teams (unlike in Europe, the clubs do not change their jerseys every year), the Montreal team announced the postponement of the presentation of its new “primary” jersey.
The reason ? The presence of an inscription in an indigenous language on the jersey which had been validated by the former management and questioned by that which arrived in 2022. “As part of the strategy surrounding the change of identity from the Impact to Club de Foot Montréal, the organization had decided to add an inscription in an Aboriginal language to the primary jersey for the 2023 season. The Club is keen to develop lasting and sincere relationships with Aboriginal communities. The consultation process with the indigenous communities is still in progress, so we have put a pause on the distribution of this jersey. We want to make sure we are listening and working collaboratively with Indigenous communities to co-create concrete initiatives” explained the Major League Soccer franchise. At first glance, it seems that the sentence in question has been permanently removed from the jersey on which we find BMO as face sponsor and Telus on the sleevea contract in place for a few weeks.
To accompany the reveal of this new blue and black jersey, CF Montreal, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, features some former club players such as Patrice Bernier, Mauro Biello, Ignacio Piatti, Nevio Pizzolitto and Greg Sutton as well as Samuel Piette the captain.
From yesterday to today, with an eye on our future.
30 years of history and memories 💙

As a reminder, the Montreal franchise which joined MLS in 2012 changed its name in 2021, becoming CF Montreal to replace the Montreal Impact. A change of identity accompanied by a logo that only lasted a few months at the time.
