MLS – CF Montreal acquires midfielders Joaquin Torres and Ahmed Hamdi


MONTREAL – CF Montreal was busy Thursday.

After getting Argentina midfielder Joaquin Torres from Newell’s Old Boys on loan, the Montreal eleven got on loan from Egyptian club El Gouna FC midfielder Ahmed Hamdi.

Torres’ deal for the 2021 season also includes an option to buy the player. The acquisition will be confirmed after receipt of his international transfer certificate and medical examination.

Torres, who turned 24 last Thursday, has been with the Rosario, Argentina-based club since 2010. He joined Newell’s Old Boys pro team in 2015.

In the 2019-2020 season, on loan to Greek first division club Volos FC, he scored five goals in 24 games, including 15 starts.

On the other hand, the deal with Hamdi also includes an option to buy the player. The agreement will be confirmed after receipt of his international transfer certificate and medical examination.

After playing for El Ahly Cairo’s Under-23 team, he officially joined the first team in 2018, recording two goals and three assists in 18 games.

He was then loaned out to El Gouna FC for the 2019 season, before being transferred there on September 17, 2019, recording a total of seven goals and three assists in 42 Egyptian Premier League games. This season, he scored two goals in four games last January.

Internationally, he played the first of five games with the Egyptian under-23 squad on July 9, 2018.
