Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 36th homer of the season, but the Toronto Blue Jays suffered a 4-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Friday in a game that required a 10th inning.
Vlad gave the Jays the lead in the fourth inning with a solo slap. Robbie Ray did the job on his side admirably at the mound, as he became the Jays’ first pitcher to reach the eighth inning in a start since Marcus Stroman in 2019.
Things took a turn for the worse at this point, as a bad pitch helped the Tigers tie the game. Ray relinquished his spot after eight innings and 11 strikeouts.
The Tigers scored three runs in the 10th inning thanks to Harold Castro, Jonathan Schoop and Jeimer Candelario. The Jays were unable to strike back at bat to take another setback.
