MLB: Summary of September 3 games in the American

The days go by and look alike for the New York Yankees, who still see their lead at the top of the East of the American melt. Aaron Boone’s squad suffered a 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, after suffering a 9-0 loss the day before.

The Yankees, who were 14 games ahead of the Rays on July 31, now only have a four-game priority over Tampa Bay and six games over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The only positive for the Yankees was the offensive outfit of Aaron Judge, who hit the 52nd homer of his season. He finished the game with two hits. Other than Judge, only Giancarlo Stanton had a hit for the Rays.

Tampa Bay took the lead in the 3rd inning on a Yandy Diaz single that drove in two runs.

Rays starter Corey Kluber notched his 10th win of the season, allowing just two hits in seven innings and four strikeouts.

It was a tougher day for Yankees gunner Clarke Schmidt, who was pulled from the game after giving up four hits and two runs in four and a third innings.

The Rays will have the opportunity to sweep the three-game series on Sunday.

Benintendi on the sidelines

Earlier Saturday, the Yankees announced that outfielder Andrew Benintendi had been added to the 10-day injured list with right wrist pain.

In the third inning of the game between the team and the Rays on Friday, Benintendi rushed into the void on a falling ball at 90 miles per hour from the Jeffrey Springs arm. Following the shot, the Yankees outfielder immediately tried to shake off the pain by shaking his hand, but had to retreat to the locker room and did not return to the game.

Boone mentioned Saturday that Benintendi would need to pass further exams.

« What we know right now is that it’s inflammation in the right wrist, » Boone said before Saturday’s game against the Rays. We want to seek other opinions to be certain of the level of his injury. We still have unanswered questions. »

The American has had his share of trouble since his early days when New York was acquired this season, posting a .206 batting average and no homers in his first 18 games with the team. However, Benintendi was showing great things in the last 10 games, hitting .325, in addition to collecting two home runs and driving in seven runs.

In addition to Benintendi, there is also first baseman Anthony Rizzo who is currently missing due to back pain. According to the most recent health exams, Rizzo will be sidelined for a longer period than expected.
