Jake Cronenworth struck for the carousel in the first six innings of the San Diego Padres’ landslide 24-8 victory over the Washigton Nationals on Friday.
The Padres scored a total of 10 points in the first two innings alone.
After being called out in his first appearance, Cronenworth produced two runs with a double in the second inning. He then pushed Fernando Tatis Jr. to plate with a triple in the third before slamming a solo homerun in the fifth. He completed the carousel with an infield single in the sixth.
The Padres second baseman is only the third in team history to achieve the feat after Matt Kemp in 2015 and Wil Myers in 2017.
In addition, Myers was not outdone Friday night: the outfielder hit a grand slam and a two-run home run. He had seven RBIs.
Tatis has crossed plate three times in addition to producing two points and stealing his 21st NHL goal of the season.
Supported by this devastating attack, Chris Paddack (5-6) did what was necessary to earn the victory despite four runs allowed in five innings.
Erick Fedde (4-7) conceded six runs in just one inning and a third.
The Nationals take a fifth straight loss.
