NEW YORK – Rafael Devers slammed a three-run homerun in the first inning against Michael King to propel the Boston Red Sox to a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday night.
Marwin Gonzalez added a two-run double in the sixth for the Red Sox.
Former Yankees Nathan Eovaldi (7-2) won his third straight start. He had a shutout until sixth.
The Red Sox ended an 11-game losing streak in the Bronx. They hadn’t won at Yankee Stadium since June 2, 2019.
It was the first of 19 games between the two teams this season.
After 57 games without crossing swords with their rivals, the Yankees began a streak of 14 games against the Red Sox in 43 games.
The 18,040 crowd booed the Yankees when the Yankees suffered two double plays. They brought their total to 54 this season, the highest in major league baseball.
The Yankees have lost eight of their last 11 games.
Gary Sanchez was struck out on strikes in his four batting appearances, lowering his average to .198.

Aaron Judge hit his 14th homer in the sixth inning at right field.
