The New York Mets have reported that star first baseman Pete Alonso is suffering from a bruise and sprain in his left wrist.

His name was placed on the injured list, retroactive to June 8. The organization has advised that the length of absence for this type of injury is usually three to four weeks. He would therefore not return to the game before the month of July.

With this injury, the Mets proceeded to recall Luis Guillorme from the AAA level.

Alonso was hit in the left wrist in the first inning of Wednesday’s game by pitch Charlie Morton. After a brief discussion with the trainer as he headed to first base, he was removed from the game.

The Mets star player is the MLB leader this season in long pitches with 22. He has a .231 batting average with 49 RBIs to his name.
