MLB July 5 Nationals recap: Four straight wins for Toro and Mariners

SAN DIEGO — Quebec’s Abraham Toro walked and things turned around for the Seattle Mariners, who beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 on Tuesday.

With the score 1-1, Toro drew four balls after two outs in the fourth. Adam Frazier followed it up with a single, then Dylan Moore scored them with a double.

Sam Haggerty then pushed Moore to the plate with a single, to complete the visitors’ three-run push.

Hitting ranks seven through nine, Frazier, Moore and Haggerty had six of 11 hits for the Mariners, who won their fourth straight game.

Haggerty had homered in the third, before an error cost a run on the Padres’ turn at bat in the inning.

Mike Clevinger (2-1) hadn’t walked before giving Toro the largesse.

In six innings, he allowed four runs, six hits and two walks.

In five and a third innings, Logan Gilbert (10-3) allowed two runs and six hits.

Gilbert leads major league baseball in wins, tied with Justin Verlander and Tony Gonsolin.

Seattle is 12-3 since June 21. That brought the club within a game of the .500 mark (41-42).

« The last few days we’ve played some really good baseball against a really good team, » Mariners manager Scott Servais said. Things are starting to go well for us. »

The Mariners have Wednesday off. They will host the Toronto Blue Jays from Thursday to Sunday.

The Padres have lost nine of their last 12 meetings. On Tuesday, three of their eight hits came from Nomar Mazara.
